This privacy policy applies to Civic Future Lab Ptd Ltd ATF Voyce Futures Trust (ABN 81 871 862 044) and is specific to the project known as the Great Plastic Rescue and our handling of personal information.  The Great Plastic Rescue supports organisations impacted by single-use plastic bans in Australia, to ensure that valuable materials do not end up in landfills.  We do this by providing a service that allows organisations to pledge their surplus stock.  

The Great Plastic Rescue generally provides services to organisations, as opposed to individuals.  The nature of our services means that, for the most part, we collect information of individuals in their professional capacity.  For example, we collect contact information of an organisation’s nominated contact person.  We do understand the importance however, of protecting personal information that we collect and hold, which is an important aspect of our relationship with organisations.

The Great Plastic Rescue applies the privacy principles set out in the Australian Privacy Act 1988.  The privacy principles guide how we collect and manage your personal information, including (but not limited to):

  • being transparent about our personal information handling practices;

  • limiting collection of personal information to that which is necessary for our functions;

  • understanding our services, and restricting our use and disclosure of personal information in that regard; and

  • taking reasonable steps to keep the personal information we have secure.

Personal information is information that identifies a person (or could reasonably lead to them being identified).

When undertaking our functions, we collect limited personal information.  The types of personal information we may collect and use depends on our relationship with you.  We may collect personal information directly from organisations or people who visit our website.  We may also collect personal information that is provided to us by our partners.

Depending on our relationship with you, and the how you interact with us, the personal information we collect may include:

  • Contact information (such as your phone and/ or email)

  • Enquiry or communication information

  • Details about your organisations’ recycling needs

  • Website analytics information, including through the use of cookies

  • Access and correction request or privacy complaint information

Our service providers

The Great Plastic Rescue uses external parties (i.e., service providers) to help us manage aspects of our service.  In order for our service providers to provide their services, we may share personal information that relates to the services being provided.   We have contractual arrangements in place with all service providers that includes strict security and data breach reporting controls.  We also ensure service providers only process personal information for the purpose it was provided to them and not for any other purpose. 

The Great Plastic Rescue uses external parties to provide services such as:

  • Website services, including webforms available on our website

  • Website analytics services

  • Integrated marketing platforms

  • Logistics service providers

Our partners

The Great Plastic Rescue may partner with a number of organisations including the government agencies and peak bodies such as the National Retailers Association.  We may share personal information with these organisations as part of providing our services.

We do not otherwise sell or share personal information with any advertisers, sponsors, content providers, media outlets, law enforcement or any other person or entity, unless:

  • We have your express permission; or

  • There is a lawful ability or requirement for us to do so.

Remaining anonymous

There may be times where we are able to interact with you anonymously or through the use of a pseudonym, such as, when you contact us with a general question.   

However, due to the nature of some of our functions and services provided, we may be unable to interact with you anonymously.

How we manage  your personal information

The Great Plastic Rescue holds limited personal information. The personal information that we do collect and use is securely managed and destroyed, whether it is held in hard copy of electronic format. 

The personal information that we hold is stored and secured within Australia. We also use service providers to store specific types of personal information (such as integrated marketing platforms, website analytics information) on our behalf.  The personal information stored by service providers relates directly to their functions and services.

We keep your personal information for different periods, depending on the purpose that it was collected for. Where we no longer require personal information for the purpose it was collected, we will securely destroy that information.

The Great Plastic Rescue maintains a number of social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, and you may choose to engage with us via these accounts.

Before you send us information via our social media accounts, please be aware that personal information supplied to us through or posted by us on any social media platform becomes captured by that platform’s privacy policy.  As such, you may choose not to share personal information with us via our social media accounts, and contact us directly via the Contact Us form on our website.

Access and correcting your personal information

The Great Plastic Rescue supports your right to:

  1. Access personal information we hold about you, or

  2. Correct your personal information, where you think that it is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.

If you would like to access personal information that we hold about you, we are happy to tell you what it is.  We will not, however, tell someone else what personal information we hold about you (unless you permit us or there is a lawful ability or requirement to do so).

If you submit a request with us, where the personal information that we hold about you is owned and controlled by one of our partners, we will direct you to the appropriate organisation.
